Soofa Signs Designed to Increase Communications to Residents

The City of Powder Springs is bringing Soofa technology to its downtown area and access points to the Silver Comet Trail to keep residents informed with up-to-date city information, community resources and local events. Powder Springs is the first community in Cobb County to implement Soofa technology into its infrastructure.

Three signs have been placed within the city. One is located in Thurman Springs Park with two along the Silver Comet Trail — one in Linear Park and the other on the Dillard Street Connector.

The Soofa Signs are sharing relevant municipal updates, an events calendar and social media posts on the solar-powered signs, which will be on throughout all park hours. By making this information available on the street level, the City is helping to ensure all constituents have access to critical updates.

The signs are wrapped in a full-color vinyl sticker, featuring Powder Springs’ signature colors of powder blue and spring green. The back of the signs are wrapped in a full-color vinyl sticker, providing wayfinding information and facts about the city.

“We liked the idea of supporting a small, start-up business and the signs are really eye catching throughout the city. They provide an easy way for the community to see what’s happening while enjoying the parks and trails available here in Powder Springs,” said Joe Wilson, the city’s director of Parks & Recreation and Cultural Affairs.

Soofa, a female-founded startup out of the MIT Media Lab, builds the first of its kind, solar-powered digital sign with e-ink display. The signs display a combination of city updates, community-generated content, and local business information. The sign also updates passersby on real-time transit information and local events while engaging users with poll questions relevant to their community. The Soofa Sign was featured by Engadget as a finalist for Best Vision for the Future at CES and was described by Curbed as the Facebook wall for the real world.
